A case of culpable homicide has been opened after a vehicle lost control and overturned on the N2 near Betshwana locality in Mount Ayliff this
morning, killing five people.
According to the Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose, five people lost their lives while one sustained severe injuries.
“The
vehicle, a Nissan NP200 LMV, was travelling from Kokstad towards Mt Ayliff with six
men between alleged ages 25-40. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, with five occupants, including the driver, declared dead on the scene. One passenger sustained severe injuries,” said Binqose.
The circumstances
surrounding the cause of accident is still unknown at this stage as the scene is still
under investigation.
He added that the injured person was taken to Mount Ayliff Hospital for further medical treatment.
