Alfred Nzo District Municipality spokesperson, Lixolile Petela confirmed that there is still no luck in resolving their official Facebook account that was hacked as of April 22.

Petela said that this account had been hacked by an unknown individual and the said hacker is now posting indecent and offensive material on the page.

“This started happening on April 22, and the municipal technicians have been working on the difficult task of tracing the hacker and to resolve the matter,” said Petela.

He added that in the meantime, the Municipality has reported the matter to Facebook via the application itself and through an email written directly to Meta headquarters.

Petela said that it should however be noted that Meta has a turnaround period of up to 21 days to resolve the matter and until that time, they are unable to remove the indecent material as the said hacker has removed the Municipality’s administration from the page.

“We understand that the content may be offensive to viewers and is frustrating to the municipality as it tarnished the image of the institution, however there is not much we have been able to do so far.”

He said that they hope for a speedy resolution of the matter by Meta and they would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
