Alleged fraudsters Nontyatyambo Mgoqi (43) and Ntsikelelo Tiwani (61) have been released on R500 bail following an appearance in the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on December, 8.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Yolisa Mgolodeli, SASSA officials in Mthatha reported attempts by the accused to apply for disability benefits using fraudulent documentation.
Mgolodeli said Mgoqi reportedly produced a medical report alleged
to have been issued by an audiologist of Mthatha General Hospital.
“During the interview with a SASSA appointed doctor,
it was suspected that the medical report was fraudulent. Preliminary
investigation conducted by the Hawks upon arrival established that Mgoqi was
allegedly assisted by her companion, Tiwani and paid about R1500 to have both
the documents drafted,” said Mgolodeli.
She confirmed that both suspects were arrested at the scene.
The matter was remanded to February 13, next year.
