Ntabankulu Local Municipality has notified members of the public about their hacked official municipal Facebook page named “Ntabankulu Local Municipality,” bearing the logo of this municipality.
This is the second municipality Facebook page that has been hacked within a month. Alfred Nzo District Municipality’s Facebook page was also hacked in April.
According to the statement issued by the Head of Communications, Lungisile Mzanywa, as an institution of government, they are obliged to, amongst other things, empower the public through communications.
Mzanywa said that this is achieved by establishing channels of communication that will be convenient for the people.
“The Facebook page has since been hacked by unknown people, and the matter is still under investigation. Irrelevant content is currently being shared on the hacked page which bears the municipal logo, and we urge the public to ignore it,” he said.
He added that the municipality is currently sharing its content on Facebook via the Official Mayor’s page named “Mayor Tsileng Sobuthongo-Ntabankulu.”
“The page has always been in use, and we urge people who are currently not following it to do so. This is to ensure that people do not miss out on any important information. Developments regarding this matter will be communicated.”
