Armed robbers steal livestock worth over R1m in Qumbu

Police in Qumbu are on the hunt for six alleged armed robbers who stole livestock from a Qumbu stock pound on Saturday last week.

hunt for six alleged armed robbers who stole livestock from a Qumbu stock pound
on Saturday last week.

It is alleged that about 22:30 six unknown armed men
went to the pound and pointed firearms at the security guards.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Kaya Matola-Mvanyashe, said entrance to the pound was gained by cutting
the fence.

“After being instructed to assist the thieves in moving the live
stock out of the pound, the security guards were ordered to lie down and
their hands were tied,” said Matola-Mvanyashe.

According to her all the stock, totalling 126 cattle, 240 sheep and 115 goats, were driven out of the pound.
After following on information, Qumbu Stock Theft Unit recovered 137 sheep, 79
goats and three cattle.

Matola-Mvanyashe confirmed that the estimated value of the
stolen stock is R1 629 000. “The remainder of the stock is still missing and
investigations are continuing.”
