Police are searching for the awaiting-trial prisoner who allegedly escaped from police custody at Cala Police Station on July 25, 2022, at about 18:00.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said that according to police reports the officers were transporting prisoners back to Sada prison when the suspect, Constable Mfundo Ntshiba escaped while being dropped off from the police vehicle.
“The suspect was initially arrested for house robbery and kidnapping in one of the locations in Cala. He appeared in court on July 25, 2022, but later escaped after returning from court. A case of escaping from unlawful custody has been opened against him for investigation,” said Kinana.
He said the circumstances under which the suspect escaped also form part of the investigation. He confirmed that police management established a task team to search for the fugitive constable.
“Members of the community are advised not to attempt to arrest the suspect, as he is believed to be dangerous, and anyone with information that could lead to his immediate arrest is kindly requested to please contact Sergeant Unati Kula at 071 771 3316 or any nearest police station, investigation continues.”
