It looks as though Ayakha Stars FC from Mthatha have managed to find their feet in the Sasol League Inland Stream, as they collected another much-needed maximum points over the weekend.
Stars FC have started the season with a slow pace, as they were struggling to maintain consistency in primary fixtures of the league and they ended spending some few weeks outside the top three teams.
But in recent weeks, things have changed as the Mthatha team collected very important victories back-to-back that help the side to improve their league table standings. In recent two league encounters, Stars FC beat Coastal United Ladies’ FC by 4-2 and that win helped the team to climb from third position to second place with 20 points.
Over the weekend, they registered their seventh victory of the season, when they demolished Eastern Rangers 5-0. The win cut down the five-point difference between them and league table toppers, Executive Ladies.
Currently, Inland Stream defending champions, Executive Ladies from Ntabankulu, have 25 points from nine games, followed by Ayakha Stars FC with 23 points after 10 games.
At the weekend, the league table leaders were supposed to lock horns with Mzamba Ladies’ FC but the game did not go ahead, as Mzamba Ladies have been suspended by the league for now.
In other results, Eluhewini Ladies’ FC from Ngcobo kept their title race alive, when they defeated Red Roses FC 2-0, to increase their points tally to 21 points from 10 games.
For this weekend’s fixtures, Executive Ladies will entertain Ayakha Stars FC in a top-of-the-table battle; Cumakala FC will host Amanqilo Birds and Coastal United Ladies’ FC will visit Eastern Rangers.
