The ABC Motsepe League side, BCM Stars, has issued a statement of apology after a fight involving supporters who were watching their game against SA Spear of the Nation FC at the Wolfson Stadium in Gqeberha over the weekend.
The Gqeberha team, BCM Stars, were hosting Bizana-based team, Spear of the Nation FC, in an important first-leg fixture of the Eastern ABC Motsepe League deciding game.
The game started very well, with both sides playing impressive football but things turned ugly in the second half, when a fight broke out between BCM Stars and Nation FC supporters.
Supporters were throwing dangerous objects at each other and some were left injured during the fight.
After the incident, BCM released the following statement: “On behalf of the chairman, management, technical team and the players of BCM Stars Football Club, we sincerely apologise for the misbehaviour by some of the fans of SA Spear of the Nation FC, who hurled missiles at innocent football spectators who were present at the stadium.
“As BCM Stars, we condemn this unsporting behaviour in the strongest possible terms. We also apologise to those who sustained injuries during the commotion.
We will keep you updated as we are expecting SAFA to give a ruling about this matter.”
By the time the game was stopped, Nation FC was leading 1-0.
The teams are expected to lock horns again in the second leg in KwaBhaca this Saturday, as the fixture was scheduled before the weekend incident.
The team that wins the two-legged fixture will be crowned as Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League champions and they will represent the province in the ABC Motsepe League promotion play-offs.
