AFTER Bizana Pondo Chiefs were automatically relegated from the GladAfrica Championship division earlier this month, football supporters in Bizana town were hoping that their second team, Spear of the Nation FC, would do well in the ABC Motsepe League and win the title.
Their hope was that Spear of the Nation FC would represent the Eastern Cape in the national promotion play-offs and, if they did well there, it would mean they would have a team again in the GladAfrica Championship league after Pondo Chiefs were relegated recently.
But unfortunately things did not go according to their wishes and hopes, as BCM Stars from East London were crowned as Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League champions over the weekend. This follows after Spear of the Nation FC failed to beat BCM Stars in the two-legged deciding fixture that the teams played in East London and Bizana.
In first leg, BCM Stars won 2-0 at home and in the second leg, over the weekend, Nation FC was expected to overturn the score line, but they failed to do so as they played to a 1-1 draw at Bizana and coach Tshepo Motsoeneng’s troops were crowned as league champions after they won by 3-1 on aggregate. Now Motsoeneng’s squad will go to the ABC Motsepe League’s national promotion play-offs in the coming days to represent the province.
For Motsoeneng, it will not be his first time coaching a team in the play-offs, as he guided Bizana Pondo Chiefs to promotion last season.
Spear of the Nation FC from Bizana will remain in ABC Motsepe League while BCM Stars will represent the Eastern Cape in the national play-offs.
