DETERMINED businessman, Live Mabeqa (29), is taking a leap of faith by launching a first-of-its-kind boat cruise experience at the Mthatha Dam.

Mabeqa, from Alice, said the boat cruise experience would start operating on July 1 this year, under his company, called Mthatha Dam Safari Boat Cruise, bringing to reality a dream he had had since arriving in Mthatha in 2013.

“I arrived in Mthatha as an administrator for a private doctor and noticed that Mthatha Dam was a popular hang-out spot, and the idea of a boat cruise came to me in 2014. In 2017, I sold my car and bought a fishing boat but later realised that the boat was not suitable for my cruise idea,” said Mabeqa.

He said he sold another car in 2019 to raise money for a brand-new boat, which will hit Mthatha Dam’s waters on July 1.

Mabeqa has a valid skipper’s licence, accredited by the South African Maritime Safety Authority.

He said the boat, named Queen Mvusi, in honour of his late mother who succumbed to COVID-19-related complications, is currently in the late stages of its assembly in Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal.

The boat cruise offering will start at a minimum of six people and a maximum of 14 and can be hired for daytime cruises, family cruises, team building, birthdays, engagements, and year-end functions.

Prices will start at R100 per adult and R50 for children under 12

More information on the Mthatha Dam Safari Boat Cruise can be found on www.mdsbc.co.za or on the Mthatha Dam Safari Boat Cruise Facebook page.

Bookings can be made by calling or sending a WhatsApp message to Mabeqa on 066 046 1462. Mabeqa said his long-term dream was for his company to become the leading boat cruise company brand in the Eastern Cape.
