Management from Bright Future Academy in Mthatha hosted a gala dinner at the Savoy Hotel in Mthatha last week, with the aim of raising funds and showcasing the BFEA programmes and projects.
This was confirmed by the founder and director of the academy, Babalwa Mtumtum, who stated that they sought collaboration with stakeholders. They aim to pilot the Extra Classes programme, from Grade 1 to Grade 12, in the rural areas of the O.R. Tambo District Municipality (ORTDM).
According to her, the academy offers extra classes in Norwood and pre-school education at Mbana locality for early childhood development in Mthatha. She mentioned that they have observed positive results in the local areas and wish to present their findings to the Eastern Cape Department of Education and Social Development as they work on registering the Bright Future Remedial School.
“We noticed that learners with learning barriers do not have a remedial school, so we are starting that route. We also engaged sponsors and business people to support these projects,” said Mtumtum.
She explained that, in response to the gaps their learners experience in reading, writing, and Maths, they initiated the Extra Classes programme from Grade 1 to Grade 12. The goal is to strengthen the foundation phase to produce quality results at the Matric level.
“We also have a pre-school at Mbana locality in Mthatha for early childhood development to ensure quality education from the earliest age. Additionally, we run an after-school programme where learners receive assistance with homework and daily reading for comprehension, meaning, and enjoyment. We also offer life coaching, educational activities, sports, and arts and culture to keep children engaged and reduce crime activities.”
According to her, their learners have shown significant improvement, with some progressing from level 1 to level 7. She added that the learners are now fluent readers at both sites.
She also mentioned that they provide parenting advice, guiding parents on how to raise their children effectively.
