Representatives from Africa’s Best 350 (AB350) Bus Services assisted the elderly Nokhaya Dana (90), by rebuilding her rondavel, which was burnt to ashes by perpetrators who were burning down the bus that was parked next to her rondavel in November 2021.
The incident happened in Lurwayizo location in Willowvale. According to the chief operating officer (COO), Khensani Hlungwini, their drivers were living in the yard and felt that there was a need for them to rebuild her rondavel.
“We then increased its capacity, and we bought her some stuff so that it would not be empty. This behaviour of burning our buses is affecting us because the buses cost R2 million. Just imagine, because even the insurance (companies) find it hard to help us when we are claiming,” said Hlungwini.
He confirmed that this was the fifth bus that was destroyed by fire in the same district. He said these attacks happened in Dwesa location, Mendweni One, Mendweni Two location and in Mbhongo location.
He said these instances were still being investigated.
Speaking on behalf of Dana, her sister, Nosisi Gatya said, “She said after the incident it was very hard for her, to the extent that she fainted as she watched her home catching fire from the bus that was parked next to it.
“She was forced to stay with relatives because even the second room is not in good condition. We thank this company for showing us support. It really was not good to see someone of her age struggling,” said Gatya.
