The Eastern Cape Chamber of Business Secretary General, Dr Andile Nontso, appeals to the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, to find the solution to fighting crime in Mthatha.

Nontso said this after the business owner from Zimbane Lodge in Mthatha, Ismael Bijal (62), known as Lito, was gunned down while celebrating his birthday on Sunday morning, August 6, in this lodge.

Nontso said,

Crime is high here, and members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) and Hawks should intervene because this happens daily. Investors will run away, and unemployment will continue here.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli confirmed that a man (34) handed himself to the police and will appear in court soon in connection with murdering the deceased.

“Police can confirm the suspect’s arrest for his alleged involvement in the murder of Bijal in Mthatha.

“It is alleged that in the early hours on Sunday morning, August 6, he was hosting guests at his premises to celebrate his birthday when the incident happened,” said Nkohli.

According to him, it is further alleged that one of the guests fatally shot the host following an argument.
