THUNDERBIRDS Ladies, from Butterworth, were left disappointed over the weekend after they failed to score a single goal in their two fixtures in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
During their midweek game last week, coach Thembalethu Apleni’s side hosted the University of the Western Cape (UWC) at Sisa Dukashe in Mdantsane, in a league fixture.
During the game, the home side aimed at continuing with their three-match winning streak, but things did not go according to plan, as the visitors grabbed all three points by winning 1-0.
After the midweek league clash, Apleni’s soldiers were hoping to bounce back when they visited the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on Sunday afternoon, but the home side made things difficult for the away side, as they ended up playing to a goalless draw 0-0.
These two league encounters have left the Butterworth team disappointed, as it was the first time Apleni’s soldiers had dropped any points since the season started.
Prior to these recent games the Apleni side was unbeaten in three league fixtures, having won all of them.
With these results, Thunderbirds Ladies remained in third position on the log, with 10 points from five games this season.
This weekend, the Butterworth team will host the mid-table side Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies’ FC at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, on Saturday afternoon.
Currently, Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies’ FC is sitting in seventh position in the Hollywoodbets Super League table, with nine points after five games.
