The members of Bomvane Youth Development (BYD), in Mqanduli, will be hosting a workshop in Mthatha, with the aim of equipping young people with knowledge about the entertainment industry.

This was confirmed by the founder of this development, Lukanyo Keti, who said that the date was not confirmed yet, but they were planning to host it in October this year.

He said they had realised that young people think that if the person wants to be an actor, he/she is supposed to go to Johannesburg or Cape Town in order to fulfil their dream.

“We want to show them that they could develop even if they are in the Eastern Cape. There is no need to go to other provinces. The reason that led us to host this workshop is that our aim is to provide mentorship from the youth who are coming from our villages,” said Keti.

He added that they also wanted to help young people because there are no resources, such as internet cafes and libraries, in the rural areas.

He said they also helped those who wanted to apply for tertiary level education with career exhibitions and assisting them to apply online. Keti confirmed that they were funding these programmes from their own pockets.

“We also work with traditional leaders to ensure that we educate young boys about how to behave and respect because we want to ensure that our next generation is respecting each other.”

Keti added that they were collecting sanitary towels that they would donate to Dudumayo Senior Secondary School in Mqanduli.

The chairperson of Isolamatshezi Development Forum, Mfanelo Ritilili, said they had partnered with this development because they had one purpose to uplift the life of young people from their areas.

“There is a high rate of unemployment in our areas so we are hoping that if we can get investors, at least it can be a relief in our youth.

“We are also planning to talk to a well-known actor to open a centre in our area so that our children could have something to do,” said Ritilili.
