Businessman Thamsanqa Hako, who owns the popular hang-out spot, Nongoloza Lifestyle and Car Wash in Mthatha, has donated a car from his business fleet to Unitra Community Radio (UCR FM), to assist the station with its operational needs.
The car was officially handed over to the station’s board of directors and management on June 17.
“My decision to donate the car to the radio station came about when the station management had an appointment with me but arrived late for that appointment, saying that they only had one car for all their operational needs. I was shocked by this and decided to do something to alleviate their plight by donating one of my business fleet cars to the station,” said the Mqanduli-born Hako.
He further said he would cover the maintenance costs of the car, as well as replacement of tyres and other items that may need to be replaced from time to time.
UCR FM station manager, Vuyisa Kulase, said the car donated to them by Hako would be mostly used by the station’s marketing department.
“As the station management, we are delighted by the donation of the car. It will really assist us in our mandate of growing the listenership and (generating) revenue for the organisation.
“The car will particularly assist our marketing department, as it will enable us to reach advertisers in other areas that we were not able to reach before due to our marketing department not having a car of its own,” said Kulase.
Hako said the donation of the vehicle was the beginning of a long partnership with the community broadcaster, while also calling on other business owners to partner and donate to UCR FM.
