The principal of Cefane Primary School in Mcobololo locality in Ngcobo, Lwazi Mditshwa, confirmed that they had turned this school into an Art Academy.
Mditshwa said that this school was an ordinary primary school, but they decided to change it to an Art Academy because they wanted to upskill learners at an early age. He confirmed that the Department of Education had approved their academy to be a public school.
According to him, they are also continuing teaching them entertainment programmes.
Mditshwa said that they teach them how to use musical instruments. He confirmed that this school is not focusing only on learners from the Mcobololo locality, but also all those parents who are willing to send their children to this school are allowed to do so.
“We entered a competition where we were performing drama, and we became Provincial Champions from the Regional level up to the National Level. For now, our school has eight educators, but we are sure that the number will increase.”
The chairperson of the School Governing Body (SGB) of Cefane Primary School, Liza Mgxaji, confirmed that they had had this vision a long time ago and are happy that it has been approved by the Department of Education.
“We are very happy because this will help our children in future. They will be able to use their hands so they are able to live instead of expecting to be employed,” said Mgxaji. He added that now that the department had approved their request, they will focus on finding funding so that they can continue with their dream.
