Champion FC, also known as “Idangatya”, edged closer to their dream of playing in the last 32 teams of the Nedbank Cup, after a stunning performance in the provincial Nedbank games in Aliwal North this past weekend.
The Lusikisiki team, Champion FC, won their first match by 4:1 against Sundowns FC from Joe Gqabi Municipality. They then won their semi-final 2-1 against Black Pool FC from Amathole Municipality and then won their final 5-2 against Mk Academy FC.
Champion FC will now lock horns against ABC Motsepe League team, Sinenkani FC, in the Eastern Cape Nedbank decider match this coming Saturday at New Rest Stadium in Lusikisiki at 15:00.
The winner this weekend will book their spot in the national Nedbank Cup last 32.
Idangatya’s troops hope that the spectators will assist them to overcome the Bizana team, Sinenkani FC, this Saturday.
In their previous match in Aliwal North, Sinenkani FC beat Bush Pirates FC 1-0.
Champion’s coach, Mongezi Mankangeni, said this was a big achievement for his “Idangatya” troops.
“This is really exciting, and I trust the players will win the Nedbank Cup decider match this coming Saturday,” said Mankangeni.
“What is important is the good relationship we had with the players, especially experienced players. They really helped us with that experience.
“What is encouraging about our squad is that we are dominated by young stars and they have a bright future,” he said.
