Congregants from the Ngangelizwe branch of the Assemblies of God, in Mthatha, showed love to a family who lost their rondavel in heavy storms last year.

They handed over a two-roomed house to the Machumela family in Gungululu location in Qumbu, last week.

According to the deputy secretary from the Assemblies of God, Monwabisi Didi, they visited the family after the incident with the aim of showing love and support.

“We found that the situation was very bad because Machumela was left with only one rondavel. We bought her groceries and we then decided to do something to meet her halfway; that is why we built this house,” said Didi.

He added that even though it was their first time building a house, the church was regularly involved in welfare projects.

House

Congregants from Assemblies of God in Mthatha handed over a two-roomed house to the victim of heavy storm, Nonceba Machumela, in Qumbu.

Didi said they use this programme to assist people with various problems.

Didi also revealed that they had hosted a Christmas party for the elders and also gave vouchers to some of the community members facing challenges.

“Preaching the word of God only is not enough. As the church, we have to make sure that we also give support to those who are in need, because you cannot preach the word of God to someone who is hungry; that is why we have this kind of programme.”

The beneficiary, Nonceba Machumela (55), said that she could not believe what this congregation had done for her because she never thought that one day she would have a decent house. “I still don’t know what to say because really what they did for me was something that I cannot even explain. This was more than love. I thank them for showing me that they care,” said Machumela.
