Coach returns from coaching clinic in US

There were high expectations as soccer coach, Mawande Mditshwa, who was representing the Eastern Cape in the United States of America for a coaching clinic, returned home on Sunday.


There were high expectations as soccer coach, Mawande Mditshwa, who was representing the Eastern Cape in the United States of America for a coaching clinic, returned home on Sunday.

Mditshwa spent 14 days in the USA, visiting areas like Chicago, Detroit and Seattle, doing development coaching and instructing, and attending the coaching clinic, aimed at developing coaches from various countries.

Mditshwa returned home with two coaching qualification certificates.

On Sunday, he was welcomed by his St John’s College U/17 soccer players, Sibango Taxi Rank Legends FC, family members, students and other stakeholders, like SADTU.

St John’s College deputy principal, Khombisile Kolisa, thanked everyone who made sure that Sunday’s welcoming ceremony was a success. Kolisa said they were confident that Mditshwa’s new skills and knowledge would improve St John’s sport and take them to another level.

Sibango Taxi Rank Legends FC captain, Mzolisi Ndabaninzi, said that they, as legends, were very thrilled that one of their members was selected to represent the Eastern Cape in the USA for coaching sport.

“From today we will get new sports skills and that information will assist the legends team.”

Asikelelwe Majokweni, who is the captain of St John’s College’s U/17 team, said that as a team, they were happy for their coach.

“He is someone who believes that nothing is impossible in life and he instills that confidence even to us as his players.”

Mawande Mditshwa said he learned a lot in the 14 days in the USA. “I gained a lot of knowledge. Sport is very broad; it needs leadership and you need to be flexible to work with other people.”
