COASTAL Ladies FC are officially the champions of the OR Tambo Regional Women’s League, after thrashing Eleven Stars’ Ladies 7-0 in the regional play-offs on Sunday.

The Coastal Ladies opened the scoring after 10 minutes of the game and they dominated the entire 90 minutes, thanks to their dangerous, sharp strikers.

Head coach, Vuyolwethu Mhlathi, said the results were expected as her troops were fit enough and ready for the task.

“The players played according to our plans and how we prepared for the game. The players were fit enough and ready for the game,” said Mhlathi.

Coastal Ladies ended the Inland Stream with 15 points, while Eleven Stars’ Ladies finished their Coastal Stream with 14 points.

The Ngangelizwe girls are hoping to return to the Sasol Women’s League.

Malwande Ntlombe, a member of the Eleven Stars’ Ladies, said, “From my observation, our team needs more fitness.

“Looking at the scoresheet, they just got tired, and I therefore believe they lack fitness.”

Besides the loss, Ntlombe said winning the second position in the Regional League was a huge achievement as a team from a township with no sponsorships.

The winner from the provincial play-offs will be promoted to the Sasol Women’s League.

The date for the provincial play-offs has not yet been announced.
