Community members from Gxulu Administrative Area in Libode have appealed to members of South African Police Services to arrest culprits who are suspected of shooting a young woman (23) in front of her siblings and her daughter (4) in their home recently.

Some of the residents, who wanted to remain anonymous, said they were not safe after this incident because they did not know what might happen next.

When the incident happened, Sinoxolo Siphuka (23) was a complainant in a rape case which happened last year.

“She was sitting with her siblings, busy folding clothes when the two unknown people, male and a female entered their home. They asked, ‘Who is Sinoxolo?’ and after she replied the female asked what she wanted from other people’s men. Before she could answer, the other suspect (the man) shot her, and she died on the scene,” said one of the neighbours.

She added that these perpetrators were not covering their faces; instead they were wearing masks only.

The victim’s mother, Vuyelwa Siphuka, said they were shocked about what happened to Sinoxolo.

She said they were still trying to swallow the pain of her daughter being raped, but now she has been killed in front of her siblings.

“I don’t know what to say because this is painful, but we trust God.

“This, too, shall pass one day.

“We are praying that the law will take its course,” she said.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, confirmed that at the time of going to print on Tuesday, no one had been arrested yet.

“Police are still investigating,” said Kinana.
