United Democratic Movement president, General Bantu Holomisa, donated 12 computers to Upper Ngqungqu Primary School in Mqanduli, last week.

He was responding to the request that was made by the school management in February this year.

Holomisa said he was very happy to receive a request from this school because he did his lower grades at this school. He said he went around asking for help and he was fortunate to receive 12 computers that would make a difference at this school.

Holomisa added that this school has an interesting history because they used to be taught in a rondavel from Monday to Friday.

“We were taught by a preacher who also used the same rondavel for his church service on Sundays and that is where I am coming from.”

The principal of the school, Fundile Sigwili, said the school was handed by the Department of Education in 2017 with a computer lab. He said that even though they have a lab, they did not have computers that can be connected to the internet.

“We were using old computers that we received from the Department of Public Works and the Department of Education, when they were changing their computers,” said Sigwili.

He said learners were only using them just to know how to type on it, but they were unable to do research and other things. He confirmed that in February this year they decided to ask Holomisa to help them.

“We are happy now because our learners will be able to learn more and gain more knowledge about technology.” Sigwili said that they would make sure that they (learners) would go to the lab with their computer teacher all the time, so that they can use these laptops for schoolwork only.
