The Mayor of the King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, Councillor Nyaniso Nelani, confirmed that they had introduced contractors to the leadership of the Ward Committees under this municipality.
He said the Department of Transport had employed three contractors, so they were introducing them to these committees.
“We are ready to work in our wards to maintain our roads; our wards are facing a challenge because it is not easy for community members to use them when they are not in good standard. Some have been affected by disaster, and some are damaged due to the issue of maintenance that takes long to be done,” said Nelani, adding that among the roads that belong to the Department of Transport are R61 and N2. He said the wards that will be maintained are Ward 35, Ward 17, Ward 34, Ward 19, Ward 20 and Ward 28.
“We are happy because we know that the roads are very important to the people. Even if someone wants to go to a clinic, they need to use a road that is of a good standard. If they are not of good standard the taxis struggle to use them, so this leads to our people struggling.”
