Four suspects aged between 24 and 31 are expected to appear before the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court today, July 12, facing different charges.

They were arrested following a joint operation by Tactical Response Team (TRT), National Intervention Unit (NIU) and Law enforcement members in the Willowvale area on July 10.

Police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, said police were busy with their Crime Combating Operation when they received information about a suspected stolen vehicle.

“Members gave chase and arrested a man (31) for possession of a suspected vehicle. Upon searching they recovered a 9mm pistol with one live ammunition in the possession of a woman (24) and she was arrested,” Mawisa said.

She added that a Polo Vivo which was stolen in the Bizana area was recovered and confiscated by police.

“Members proceeded with the operation to Ezinkawini Village in Willwovale and arrested two suspects aged 25 and 31 in different houses for possession of unlicensed firearms, four 9mm pistols with live ammunition as well as tobacco.”

The District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu commended the members for their excellent work in ensuring that at least five firearms are off the streets.
