The SAPS family converged at KwaLindile Location in Mthatha on Saturday, 29 January as they paid their last respect to the late Sergeant Mthandeni David Skomela, who was attached to the Stock Theft Unit in Mthatha.

The late hero was gunned down by ruthless criminals recently at his home.

Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, police spokesperson, said the late Sergeant, who joined the service in January 2005, was described as a humble, disciplined and dedicated member of the service, who was always eager to walk the extra mile in performing his official duties.

Provincial Commander of the Stock Theft Unit, Colonel Siphelo Jaggers, expressed concern about how the community value members of the South African Police Service, who take risks in ensuring safety and security of members of the community. He further described the death of one of their members as a blow as it hinders service delivery.

Jaggers thanked the Skomela family for allowing the late hero to form part of the South African Police Service, where he worked diligently to protect all citizens.
