The founder and managing director of a non-governmental organisation (NGO), called Exhibition, Nasiphi Nkwelo, donated blankets to Thembelihle Childhood with Care Centre in Mthatha, last week.

This was part of their Keep the Warmth campaign, which they run on an annual basis to support communities.

Nkwelo said they had donated blankets in Mthatha, East London at Gompo, where they also donated to the elderly. They also supported an orphanage home in Gqeberha.

“We are doing this [campaign] because we see the social ills in our communities and not everybody is fortunate and manage to achieve everything. Some homes are child-headed families and some are old people, so these are the some of the things that make us to intervene where we can.

“For instance we donated blankets in this home after we found that children did not have enough blankets to sleep on,” said Nkwelo.

She added that to ensure that their dream is fulfilled they are working with other organisations to ensure that they close any gaps.

She said this organisation is conducting a lot of skills development programmes, where they focus on agriculture and other things that could uplift the communities and children.

She also confirmed that they prepare food packs and refurbish other homesteads. Kei commercial manager for Vodacom, Thoko Mandela, said they were so happy to see Nkwelo doing so much for the community.

“She is working as our weapon for our companies and our partners because what she is doing uplifting the standard of living for our children.

“We work with her NGO because we found that we are on the same page. For us it is a way of ploughing back to communities. We also work with different stakeholders but this one is one of the entities that we are working with.”

One of the social workers from Thembelihle Childhood Care Centre, Neliswa Gece, said this home takes care of children who are abandoned and who had been abused in different ways. She said they deal with children who had been faced by a lot of challenges.

“We are doing different types of services. We are very happy to see some people coming to support us. These donations mean a lot to us. We appreciate everything they are doing for us,” Gece said.
