A head on collision on the N2 highway near Western Avenue in East London has claimed the lives of two people, while another sustained severe injuries on Friday, September 16.
According to the Department of Transport’s spokesperson Unathi Binqose, a VW Golf with one occupant and a BMW with two occupants, an adult male and a three-year-old boy collided at around 23:00.
“The VW Golf was heading in the direction of Butterworth, while the BMW was heading in the opposite direction. Two adults perished on the scene, while the severely injured toddler was taken to Frere Hospital for medical attention,” said Binqose.
He added that it is alleged that reckless and negligent driving was the main contributed factor for the cause of accident.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Cambridge Saps for further investigations.
