The Eastern Cape Department of Education MEC, Fundile Gade sends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the Grade 12 educator, Hardley Le Bron (53) from Greenpoint high school in East London, who was shot in the early hours of Saturday morning, May 18 in his East London home.
According to the spokesperson for the Department of Education, Mali Mtima the department was informed of this heinous crime by the family in the morning on the same day of this incident.
He said that the Le Bron, is hailed as one of the most dedicated and respected educators by the school. At the time of his death, he was performing well in his subject, Physical Sciences.
“A psychosocial team from the Buffalo City Education district has been activated for both the school and the family of the deceased.
” This is to ensure that all affected get debriefing and counselling for this trauma. Furthermore, a team from the district visited the school to break the sad news to educators, learners and members of the School Governing Body as well. Subsequently, the team will visit the family to pay respect and homage to the educator,” said Mtima.
Gade urged the family and the community to co-operate with the police as they conduct their investigation.
“We have been robbed of a community builder and a nurturer by these criminals who committed this horrendous crime. As a society, we need to be vigilant and support the work of the police in solving this crime. As a seasoned physics educator of 30 years, the late educator also featured prominently in all the district matric intervention classes. This therefore means that, many young children who benefited in his teaching skills have been robbed of a chance to perform better in physics. We call upon all law enforcement agencies to work around the clock and find these criminals to face justice for their odious crime, “Gade urged.
