EXECUTIVE Ladies are on track to win the Sasol Women’s League title for the second time in a row.

This past Saturday, the women from Ntabankulu drew 1-1 in an entertaining football match against their rivals, Ayakha Stars Ladies, at Mthatha Stadium.

After Lilitha Mweli scored a goal for her team, Ayakha Stars Ladies dominated the game and went to half-time leading 1-0.

In the second half, Executive Ladies made some changes and brought Chwayita Zimba onto the field, who then pressed Ayakha Stars’ defence until they made a foul in the box.

Zimba raised her hands, scored the penalty and the match ended with a score of 1-1.

Currently, the Executive Ladies are leading the league with 32 points.

With two games remaining in the season, Ayakha Stars are in second position with 27 points.

Executive Ladies’ captain, Ntombizobuhle Senzela (23), said even though the game ended in a draw, there was an indication that ‘the star was coming’ which meant they were going to win the league again.

“We will fight until the last game, and we are confident that we will take the league and proceed to the national play-offs again this year,” said Senzela.

Meanwhile Ayakha Stars Ladies’ captain, Sinethemba Angel Mbeko, said, “The game was not tough but we are the ones who made mistakes and they took that advantage and punished us. Otherwise, we were in control of the game.

“We are not disappointed that much, as long as they did not take all three points.

“We still have a chance next season, but anything is possible in football.

“The log can change anytime but we’ll see in the remaining games.”

The two remaining games for Executive Ladies will be against Mzamba Ladies on October 9, and against Eluhewini Ladies on October 30.
