Lutoli Junior Secondary School in Sibangweni Administrative Area outside Mthatha has warmly welcomed the donation of trees to the school that were donated and planted by the Mthatha Express team as part of the 67 Minutes for Mandela Day initiative..
The team donated and planted two Cornifers and two Eugenia trees on the day.
School principal Nandipha Tshaka said the donation meant a lot for the school as they only had two trees.
“I wish to thank the Express team and your parent company Media24 for the precious gift of trees that you donated. We are very happy and feel honoured that you thought of us for this initiative and the trees will help us to provide shade for lessons that we conduct outside the classroom, usually under the scorching sun. You might think that this is a little but to us it means a lot,” said Tshaka.
She further committed the school and the surrounding community to nurturing the trees so that they grow and are not destroyed by domestic animals.
“We will take good care of these trees; we will preserve them, and they will grow. One day when you come to the school again you will see them. Thank you very much,” Tshaka pledged.
Members of the school governing body were also present to witness the occasion.
