Fairfield Athletic Club’s first gravel race a success

The first gravel race hosted by Fairfield Athletic Club in Dosi location this past Sunday was described as a success.


The first gravel race hosted by Fairfield Athletic Club in Dosi location this past Sunday was described as a success.

The race started at Dosi Sports Ground to Kaplane locality and back to Dosi.

The event included 5km and 10km races.

Nwabisa Magade, who is the head coach, said the purpose was to encourage young athletes to be part of sport from a young age.

She said that they do not have any sponsors, and everything is paid for from their own pockets.

“We will host this programme annually to support and revive athletics in rural areas,” said Magade.

She said that they were satisfied with the number of athletes who participated.

Fairfield Athletic Club is also expected to host another race this month.

Some of Sunday’s winners were:

5km (6-7 years male): 1 Njemla Anokuhle, Fairfield Athletics Club.

Females: Yedwa Lunje, Fairfield Athletics Club.

8-11 years males: Mtabisa Lithobile, Yiza Kum Athletics Club.

Females: Imange Tibe, Fairfield Athletics Club.

12-16 males: Mtya Oyintanda, Fairfield Athletics Club.

Females: Ngambu Onele, Yiza Kum Athletics Club.

10km females: Lusanda Bomvana Menziwa, Elliot Madeira Charity Club.

Junior females: Emihle Menziwa.

34+ females: Nolundi Majeke, Balekani AC.

40+ females: Zameka Balasana, Cheetahs AC

50+ females: Sharon Trower-Horner, Zinikele Mgijimi AC.

Males: Ntsebenzo Nake, Elliot Madeira Charity Club.
