A family from Tyumbu location in Mthatha was left homeless after their house was destroyed by a fire, recently.

No one was present when the incident happened. According to the owner of this house, Novusile Nenze (55), she was attending a traditional ceremony in Ngqeleni when the incident happened.

She said everything was inside the house including school uniforms for her six children and their books.

“I am left with the clothes that I am wearing now. I cannot explain the pain that I am going through because I don’t know how to replace my stuff. The person who burnt my house should have taken what he/she was looking for and leave my house alone.

“I am asking anyone who could assist me to donate anything that could assist us. It is not the stove that caused this fire but it’s a human being,” said Nenze.

Her son, Thami Nenze (32), said he collapsed after he saw his home burnt down. He said he is the one who worked very hard, trying to assist his mother by building this house and now he does not have strength to do that anymore.

The ward councillor of the area, Councillor Mtunzi Teti, said he was aware of the situation.

He said the matter had been reported to the disaster management division of the OR Tambo District Municipality.

“The officials visited the family to assess the situation; they brought food parcels and other stuff. We also wrote a letter to the Department of Social Development, asking them to intervene,” said Teti.

He said if there is anyone who wants to assist by donating anything, the family would appreciate that.
