A producer and singer, Yolande Nkosi, from Mthatha but residing in East London, has worked with her son, Jabulani Junior Nkosi (20) known as JR, to release a single song titled Conquering Autism.
The aim is to encourage parents to accept and love their children living with this condition.
Nkosi confirmed that she is singing with her son, Jabulani, who is also autistic.
According to her, they released this single after she realised that some of the parents were struggling to accept their children.
Even though her son is living with this condition he has managed to achieve the Ovation Award at the National Art Festival held in Grahamstown in 2019 for his performance titled “I am autistic but I can.”
“This song is encouraging them to love their children despite all odds. Also, to understand that they are not the same so they must be patient with them,” said Nkosi.
She added that she also worked with students from Fort Hare University to produce a drama called Just Different Not Less, with the aim to encourage these parents.
Nkosi confirmed that they are educating people about this so that they should stop discriminating children who are living with this c
“We are doing this drama because we believe that some people understand better when they are watching, than listening to someone speaking.”
She said that those who might be interested in watching it could contact her at 082 825 3613.
Regarding the song, she said that it is available on all digital platforms.
