THE Mnquma Local Football Association (Mnquma LFA) member, FC Tshabalala, was crowned as the new champions of the Mavuso Scara Memorial Tournament over the weekend.

This follows after FC Tshabalala defeated Peace Makers 4-3 on penalties at Msobomvu sports ground, in Butterworth, on Sunday afternoon, after they played to a 1-1 draw during the regulation time.

During the game, both teams had good, clear chances but they managed to convert a single chance each. They ended up in a penalty shoot-out, where coach Simpiwe Siyongwana’s troops were victorious.

For winning the tournament, Siyongwana’s soldiers went home with a big, beautiful trophy, gold medals and a soccer ball.

Meanwhile, runners-up, Peace Makers, received silver medals and a soccer ball as their prizes. The tournament was made up of nine soccer teams, from different areas around Mnquma.

Most of these teams play in the same promotion league as the champions, FC Tshabalala, called the Mnquma LFA.

Each team which participated received a soccer ball to thank them for taking part in this annual event.

Siyongwana thanked all his players for performing well during the tournament and said he was hoping that the win would boost their confidence even more during league games.
