ALL the names of the boxers who will be fighting in the upcoming Isizwe Boxing Promotions tournament next month were revealed last week.
Isizwe Boxing Promotions, in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, is preparing to host a significant boxing tournament at King Hintsa TVET College in Dutywa on March 15.
Their aim in hosting the event is to revive the sport of boxing in the Mbhashe area, as this sporting code is no longer as active there as it once was.
Last week, promoter Ntsikayesizwe Sigcawu from Isizwe Boxing Promotions revealed the names of all the boxers who will be participating in the tournament next month. Speaking with the media, Sigcawu indicated that the event will feature nine fights from boxers coming from different regions within the province.
Among the boxers who will be fighting, the first bout is expected to be between Mdantsane boxers, Sinalo Jonas and Siyamthanda Mbali, who will be fighting in the Junior Bantamweight division in a four-round fight.
Olwam Mana from the Chris Hani district will face Uyathandwa Ngcuphe from Mdantsane in a Bantamweight division four-round fight. Akhona Ndam from the Chris Hani district will fight against Asisipho Zikishe from Ginsberg in the Flyweight division, also over four rounds.
In a Lightweight division fight, Buntu Ranti from SADA will exchange blows with Lelethu Mzuli from Duncan Village in a four-round bout. Indiphile Bottoman from Mdantsane will face Masixole Mbanga from Dimbaza in a Bantamweight division four-round fight.
In a Welterweight division bout, Masibulele Mbumba from Butterworth will fight Lutho Mbuku from Mdantsane in a four-round fight. Sonke Komeni from Cumakala will exchange blows with another Butterworth boxer, Bathandwa Mendela, in a Junior Lightweight division fight scheduled for four rounds.
Then, in the main supporting bout, Ndobayini Kolosa from Mhlontlo Local Municipality will fight Nomandithini Ndyambo from Buffalo City in Phumlani in the Female Catchweight division over four rounds.
The main bout will be between Siseko Makeleni, the Eastern Cape champion from OR Tambo, and Hlumelo Gingxana from Buffalo City. They will fight for the Eastern Cape Lightweight title over ten rounds. Gingxana made a bold statement last week that he would dethrone Makeleni. He said he is ready to face the Eastern Cape champion and is confident of winning the fight. Gingxana also called on all boxing fans and supporters to turn out in large numbers to support this big event, scheduled to take place in Mbhashe.
Entrance fees for the event are R100 for adults, R50 for children, and R20 for students. Mbhashe Executive Mayor Samkelo Janda, Amatole District Municipality, and Department of Sport officials from the province are among the dignitaries expected to attend the event.
