GROWING up under the custody of her grandmother, Zilungile Wotsetse (23) experienced first-hand the struggle of not being able to afford sanitary pads and is now determined to make sure that other young girls in rural schools are spared the same struggles she experienced.

Wotsetse recently started the Zilungile Wotsetse Foundation, whose main objective is to collect sanitary pads, toiletries and school uniforms for rural schools in Libode, where she hails from.

“I started the foundation after realising that many young girls still struggle to afford sanitary pads, with many even missing school as a result,” she explained.

She said, through the help of her church congregants, who have contributed to her cause, she already had a few packs of sanitary pads collected but was appealing to individuals and businesses to continue contributing to the initiative.

Those wishing to contribute to the cause can contact Wotsetse on 073 227 4118 or through the Zilungile Wotsetse Foundation Facebook page.

Wotsetse said she would distribute the collected sanitary pads exclusively to primary schools, which she said were often overlooked, as donors often focus only on high schools when supplying much-needed sanitary pads to communities.
