The Avengers Foundation, led by the founder Afika Sodo, donated sports equipment to Gobizizwe Primary School in Ncise, Mthatha last Friday, September 15.
The equipment includes soccer balls and netballs. The foundation also took the opportunity to encourage kids to participate and be more active in sport. Sodo was accompanied by Coach Thando Nkebe during the handover.
The Avengers Foundation was founded in 2019, and their mission is to create a better future for young people by improving their employability and key life skills, through their sports and education-themed personal development programmes. The Avengers Foundation has a netball and football team, both u/13 and u/15. Sodo said that one of their aims as a foundation is to develop locally-relevant solutions to the challenges of substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and crime.
“We believe that sport participation is one of the ways in which we can curb those social ills.”
The donation was received by the school principal, Siyabulela Kona. The foundation will also host their annual Heritage Development Cup this coming weekend.
According to Sodo, the tournament is strictly aimed at development, as it is meant for under- 15 divisions of soccer and netball.
The tournament is in its second year of existence this year, and will be played in Ward 10, Lalini Location, Ncise A/A, Mthatha.
