The members of the Impendulo Foundation have played a major role in uplifting the standards at Ngwayibanjwa Senior Secondary School in Mthatha, by asking eight tutors to assist learners from that school in maths, physics and English.
The founder of the Impendulo Foundation, Wendy Mpendulo, said they worked with the vulnerable groups. Mpendulo said the intention of the organisation was to bring development to rural communities, townships and settlements.
“Most of the time, we know that people who are living in these areas have limited resources, so Impendulo Foundation works as their vehicle to make things easier for them,” said Mpendulo.
She said they chose Ngwayibanjwa as one of the schools they wanted to work with, as they had worked with the teachers from this school before, assisting them with mathematics.
The principal of the school, Bantubathi Retyu, said they hoped that this initiative would bring an improvement to the learners’ results. He said even though learners who were doing commercial subjects did very well, many struggled with science and maths.
“This programme would help a lot because we can achieve the percentage that we want. We have chosen 50 learners who are not doing well in these subjects, and they would get special attention. We thank this foundation for choosing us,” said Retyu.
