Four people lost their lives in a head-on collision on the
N2 near the Gwadana turn off just outside Dutywa towards Butterworth on April
27.
Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose
confirmed that the incident occurred yesterday afternoon.
He said a VW Tiguan SUV with four men from Butterworth
collided with a UD Nissan rigid truck. The driver of the UD Nissan was alone in
the vehicle.
“All four occupants from the Tiguan died on the scene. The
truck driver was taken to Butterworth Hospital with severe injuries. It is
alleged that driving under the influence of alcohol was the main contributing
factor for the accident,” said Binqose.
He added that a case of culpable homicide has been opened at
Dutywa SAPS.
