A gospel artist from Willowvale, Betusile Mcinga, is on a mission to assist the Gijana family by building a four-roomed house for them.

This followed after the family was left homeless after their shack was destroyed by a fire last month.

Mcinga confirmed that he was working with his stakeholders to ensure that this dream is fulfilled.

He said they had requested donations from different people, and they had received a positive response.

“After I was tagged by so many people on social media, I decided to do something. In fact we thought we would only rebuild their shack, but we decided to build a solid structure so that they may have a proper home,” said Mcinga.

The water tank also caught on fire.

He added that up to so far they managed to raise R25 000 and some people donated different materials, including clothes. He confirmed that they were still asking for more donations because the quotation is R38 000 in total.

Talking to Express, one of the family members, Nosolomzi Delihlazo, said when the shack caught fire, her family was not inside.

“We think the person who burnt the shack thought they were sleeping (inside but) fortunately they were visiting their relatives. They are now left with nothing. When trying to narrate about what happened they just cry. It is very painful because they don’t know what to do,” said Delihlazo.

She said they were still shocked because they don’t know what will happen next. According to her, all the family members are unemployed and they all depend on the social grant. “We appeal to anyone who could assist to do so because they don’t even have clothes.”
