The founder of the Soul Clap Session, Thandeka Vabaza from Mthatha, has confirmed that the High School Poetry Challenge Workshop will be held at the Mthatha Art Centre on Saturday, October 23, from 12:00-16:00.

This challenge was supposed to be hosted on July 24, but was postponed due to COVID-19.

Vabaza made a call to all high school learners in the OR Tambo District Municipality who are interested in poetry to take part in this workshop.

He said the aim was to develop spoken words and poetry at school level.

“We understand that poetry played a major role when South Africa was fighting for its freedom. It played a big part in liberating people of South Africa. This skill is very important in solving social problems,” said Vabaza.

He added that the country was still facing a lot of challenges like drugs and xenophobia, so poems can be used to challenge people to change their behaviour.

Vabaza said using the voices of young people could change this country; he confirmed that they were expecting learners to travel to the event from the OR Tambo District Municipality.

He added that registration cost R50 which included both the workshop and a poetry competition.

The registration is payable on the day of the event.

The first prize will be R1 000, with second place winning R500 and third prize being R250. All of the top three also win Soul Clap Sessions mentorship and digital profiling.

Vabaza confirmed that COVID-19 protocol would be observed. Those who want more details can contact him at 068 589 9933.
