Imiganu Easter tournament a success

Melinkqubo Ndabokutya from Khula Sport Development and Events in the Mbhashe area, was delighted to see soccer and netball teams coming out in great numbers to participate in the first edition of the Imiganu Easter tournament, which was held at Mkatazo sports ground in Xhora, over the weekend.

The tournament started last month with more than 15 teams in both sporting codes. The aim of the event was to contribute to rural sports development.

Khula Sports Development and Events was hoping to encourage youth around Mbhashe and surrounding areas to stay away from drugs and focus to sport activity.

Pit Bulls Netball Club from Mqanduli and Madala Netball Clubs from Xhora reached the final, after they won their semi–finals.

In the final, Pit Bulls Netball Club defeated the hosts, Madala Netball Club, 25–18.

While in the soccer final, Dova Dova FC from Xhora defeated their neighbours, Real Brothers FC, 3–1 on penalties, after they played to a goalless draw during regulation time.

The soccer champions went home with R5 500, a soccer kit, a big trophy plus gold medals and the runners-up got R2 500, a soccer kit plus silver medals.

The netball winners went home with R2 500, netball kit, a trophy plus gold medals and the runners-up got R1 000, netball kit plus silver medals.

Event organiser, Ndabokutya, congratulated all the teams who did well during the tournament and appreciated the teams who were part of the event.
