EC Councillor and son gunned down at their home, daughter escapes unscathed

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has initiated a 72-hour activation plan following the murder of Ingquza Hill Councillor Fundisile Ranai and his son at their homestead in Slovo Park, Lusikisiki on Friday, September 16. 

Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said it is alleged that at about 20:30 yesterday, at least two gunmen barged into the Councillor’s home and opened fire, killing his 18-year-old son.

“The 49-year-old Councillor was seriously wounded and later died in hospital. His eight-year-old daughter escaped unscathed. The motive for the attack is currently unknown, however the circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the investigation,” said Kinana.

“Police are investigating two murder cases and no arrests have been made at this stage.”
