A young man from Centane in Mnquma area, Julias “Juju” Jonga (28), has a belief that sport can play a meaningful role to minimise the use of drugs and alcohol by the youth.

The remarks came after Jonga told the newspaper that he had started a soccer team in Centane Township, aiming at taking youth away from drugs and alcohol abuse, and helping them make their dreams come true through football.

SAB League side Musketeers FC mid-fielder, Juju, noticed many young people in Centane town and surrounding areas spending their time doing criminal activities, rather than focusing on important things that will help them in future.

Some young people end up dropping out at school because of drugs and alcohol, while others are getting arrested at an early age.

During youth month Juju decided to start a soccer team that would operate as a feeder team to the big clubs competing in the SAB League, ABC Motsepe League and Motsepe Foundation Championship.

By forming this team Juju also wanted to contribute to rural sport development, and keep youth busy with sport so that they have no time for wrongdoing.

He said that his newly-formed team does not have resources like balls, cones, kits and other football equipment, and they are being assisted by his team, Musketeers FC, for now with resources.

Furthermore, he said, he would love to get support from everyone who can donate balls and kit.

Currently his team has more than 15 players, and the club is yet to be named.

Juju is looking forward to going around Centane town and surrounding areas, recruiting more players to join his team, with the aim of using sport to fight the use of drugs by youth.
