An executive member of Mbhashe Hiking Adventures, Sisa Baliso, confirmed that they had recently hosted the third King Zanzolo Hintsa 20km Hiking Experience over two days.
He confirmed that they had partnered with Mbhashe Local Municipality.
“We started this hiking in 2021, after we saw that the name of King Hintsa was decreasing even though he played a major role in protecting Amaxhosa. By doing this we were trying to uplift his name so that people must not forget about it,” said Baliso.
He added that they wanted to contribute to the tourism around Mbhashe, and also to contribute to the economy of this municipality.
According to Baliso, they also wanted to expose the beauty of Willowvale as it is has beautiful scenery.
“King Hintsa was murdered at Nqabara River in Willowvale. In other words, by doing this we can say that we are commemorating his life, because he died on May 12, 1835, which is the same month that we are hosting this initiative.”
He added that the starting point was from Ntsimbakazi location in Willowvale, and they also visited the grave site of King Hintsa in Nqabara.
