The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality executive and political leadership met at Hole in The Wall over a three-day period from February 9 to 11 for the mayoral lekgotla, which gathered, in the main, to align its municipal plans with those of national and provincial government.

The three-day gathering also received inputs from its strategic partners, including the OR Tambo District Municipality, South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and the Eastern Cape Socio-Economic Consultative Council (ECSECC).

“It was imperative that we gather under one roof to align our plans with those of the national and provincial spheres of government, so that we have one vision and speak in one voice in terms of service delivery to our people. The session was also for administrative leadership to appraise the new political leadership on the current situation of the municipality,” said KSD Executive Mayor, Nyaniso Nelani, while outlining the purpose of the gathering.

Addressing the gathering, OR Tambo District Municipality Executive Mayor, Mesuli Ngqondwana, advised that KSD needed to identify its priority projects which could benefit from the district municipality’s support.

He further cautioned about financial challenges facing the district municipality saying they were working tirelessly to ensure that the funds that are withheld by the National Treasury were released for service delivery endeavours.

The mayoral lekgotla was expected to provide guidelines on land use management to save the prevailing land invasions from land grabbers.

Furthermore, the municipality said it would work closely with traditional leadership and support all the private sector property development investments.

The municipality is planning to host a mega-strategic planning session with relevant stakeholders to be invited to participate in the municipal planning for the term of 2022-27.
