The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality Executive Mayor, Nyaniso Nelani, has implored people over the age of 50 who may still be suffering from vaccine scepticism, to register and get vaccinated against COVID-19, saying the vaccine is the solution the country had been waiting for against the deadly virus.

Nelani made the comments after he, together with members of his mayoral committee, and senior management including the municipal manager, Ngamela Pakade, received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine against the COVID-19 on July 5.

“I would like to encourage the KSD community to take part in the registration for the vaccine and get vaccinated. We have been praying for a solution to the pandemic for over 12 months now and it (the vaccine) is here,” said Nelani, after receiving his jab.

“This is the moment we have all been waiting for. I urge everyone who is eligible for a vaccine to grab the opportunity with both hands, not only to protect yourselves but to protect the lives of others by registering and getting vaccinated as soon as possible,” Nelani, who is also a COVID-19 survivor, implored.

He further said the municipality would also be embarking on several initiatives, such as loud hailing, aimed at encouraging citizens from the age of 50 to register on the database to receive the lifesaving COVID-19 vaccine.

Nelani also appealed to the KSD community to adhere to lockdown restrictions, as well as non-pharmaceutical measures aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19 such as wearing of a mask in public, washing hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitiser, and practising social distancing.
