KSD Municipality unveils Mqanduli DLTC construction project

The construction period is set for completion within 12 months and at least 50 temporary job opportunities are to be created during the construction period.

Nelani said, upon completion, the Mqanduli DLTC will ease the burden in the Mthatha branch, while also offering integrated services.

“The Mqanduli DLTC will offer a one-stop shop in the sense that service such as vehicle registration, vehicle licence renewal, as well as driving licence testing, will be integrated at the centre.

“It will also bring services nearer to people from Elliotdale and Coffee Bay, who (previously) had to go to Mthatha for such services,” Nelani said.

He further said the Mqanduli DLTC would be equipped with the latest technology equipment to ensure efficient rendering of services.

Scope of work on the 548m² Mqanduli DLTC included, testing ground, parking area and staff offices, including the office of the chief traffic officer, as well as a storage office.

Nelani also used October 29 to unveil and hand over completed projects in several wards which fall under the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality, including:

  • 2km road upgrade of Viedges to Sawmill streets to tarred roads;
  • Rosedale Community Hall (Ward 10). The hall will accommodate 200 people and will serve the needs of the community;
  • Dumrhana to Guvevu via Cimela access road (Ward 31) contractor handover with low level bridge as part of the project;
  • Repair of the sidewalks in Mthatha’s York Road down to Bridge Street. This will be a labour-intensive project creating job opportunities for more than 60 people within the KSD municipality;
  • Ikwezi Community Hall handover: The hall will benefit the Ikwezi community (Ward 2) to conduct social events and governmental programmes to better lives;
  • The municipality also unveiled a paving machine it bought that will assist in fixing potholes in many suburbs.
