Kwanda Lupalule is celebrating three years since joining the Bloemfontein Celtic development team in 2017 and he is now working harder to attract the attention of the senior team coach.

The Ugie-born Lupalule joined the Free State team in September 2017.

After a good display in June 2017, in one of Junior Chiefs’ games in Bloemfontein, the young star, from Entokozweni location in Ugie, was asked to be part of trials in September and indeed during the trials he was selected to join the Siwelele MDC team.

In his first year in 2018, Lupalule played for one of the local Border schools; then in the following year, 2019, he started playing for Bloemfontein Celtic u/19.

In the 2020/21 season, Lupalule signed a contract playing for MDC Bloemfontein Celtic up until the present.

Last season, which ended a few weeks ago, Lupalule featured in about four games.

He told Mthatha Express that he was making a lot of progress in his career and also mentioned that football needs hard work.

The Celtic right back said that he is now pushing hard to be part of first team soon.

“Hard work pays off. I am who I am because of hard work. I am training every day, Monday to Sunday, and I don’t have weekends.”

Before signing with Celtic, Lupalule was playing for Junior Chiefs Academy in Ugie.

Meanwhile, his former coach at Junior Chiefs Academy, Van Percy Mlangeni, said it was not easy to develop players from the rural areas.

“We are still working harder to develop other young stars, but we still need more support from parents, and I would like to thank Kwanda’s mother for the support she has given to Kwanda while he was part of Junior Chiefs’ programmes.”

Coach Mlangeni said his aim as the team coach was to see the rural stars changing their families’ lives and situations through football.
